PolyU CPCE and Hong Kong International Aviation Academy Sign MoU

PolyU CPCE and Hong Kong International Aviation Academy Sign MoU
on Enhancement of Aviation-related Subjects and Activities

In order to nurture those in the younger generation who aspire to embark on a career in the aviation industry, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)-affiliated College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE), Hong Kong Community College (HKCC), and Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (the Academy) of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to collaborate on developing, providing and operating a range of aviation-related subjects, courses and activities to strengthen the training of aviation professionals in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong’s aviation industry has been flourishing in recent years.  Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) currently has over 73,000 staff. With the continuous increase in passenger and cargo traffic and a number of ongoing expansion projects at HKIA, there is a strong demand for talent in different fields of the aviation industry, such as maintenance, cargo logistics, and ground handling services. It is expected that after the completion of the Three-runway System, the aviation industry can provide over 120,000 direct jobs by the year 2030. Therefore, there is a strong need to step up the training of professionals for the aviation industry so as to solidify the industry’s future development.

Under the MoU, HKCC and School of Professional Education and Executive Development (SPEED), the two educational units of CPCE, will work closely with the Academy on developing aviation-related subjects, short courses, and professional training. Guest lectures and seminars, familiarisation trips, and site visits will also be organised. In addition, Work-integrated Education (WIE) and job referral services for graduates are some of the highlights of the MoU.

As the first initiative under the MoU, SPEED will offer a new elective subject on Aviation Service Management in collaboration with the Academy, with the aim of helping students keep the pulse of the aviation industry and enrich their know-how.

Besides, HKCC will continue to offer Higher Diploma in Aircraft Services Engineering, a programme launched in 2015 to provide students with fundamental principles and technical skills of aircraft services engineering. Extensive training modules and projects are supported by the Industrial Centre of PolyU. Graduates may either develop their career as an entry level associate engineer or pursue a related bachelor’s degree.

CPCE was founded in 2002 as a self-financed college of PolyU. CPCE oversees the day-to-day operations of its educational units – HKCC and SPEED, which provide quality self-financed higher education programmes for secondary school leavers and lifelong learning opportunities for working professionals.

SPEED was founded in 1999 to provide quality top-up honours degree programmes in the field of business and other professional areas that are relevant to a range of career and professional aspirations.  With a view to providing flexible and quality articulation pathways for sub-degree graduates, SPEED provides more than 20 top-up honours degree programmes leading to PolyU-SPEED awards.

HKCC was established in 2001 to offer over 30 quality sub-degree programmes spanning the domains of arts, science, social sciences, business and the specialised areas of design and health studies.  Since its establishment, HKCC has helped over 22,900 of its graduates articulate into bachelor’s degree programmes, representing a 15-year average articulation rate of 80.9%.
